entranced

sometimes i find myself
frozen at the mouth of the
empty tomb staring into the
darkness with the sound
of a pounded spike
tearing through flesh and
cartilage crushing bone on
its way into the tree
endless echoing in my ears
i stare into the
death space wondering where
you are and why things happen
the way they do
i try to succumb to lay
down my head in
that void but
instead i surrender
my pain for Yours and
when i finally
dis-entrance and turn my
gaze toward the sun You
are there engulfing me and
in fact You always
keep me from being
swallowed whole by death
renewing me in
Your resurrection
i breathe in Your grace
let You hold me close and
i am alive again

the second day

on the third day
You rose again

but on
the second day
i rest

trusting
the tomb
will be empty
tomorrow

patina

buffing away
 stubborn whitewash
creates cool patina
amidst
 golden luster

i am one

i am one
who waved palm leaves
with the crowd
unsure of
what was happening
but wanting to belong

i am one
who cheered "hosanna"
with the crowd
because of
what i thought
i was seeing

i am one
who cried "crucify Him"
with the mob
because i
did not want
to seek His face

i am one
who is face-down
at the foot of the cross
receiving His sacrifice
so freely given

the last sip

(i pause
before) the last
sweet sip

 (to catch)
 the sunset
 of a delightful day

jewels

set back
on my heels
hugging knees
tucked under
my shirt
tilting my head
slightly
slowly
to see
sun brilliant
edges of
broken glass
even bleeding
when i reach for
the pieces
to hold you
friend

mirror mirror
pleasing reflection
of what you thought
i wanted to see
is gone

a thousand
tiny jewels
awe me in
its stead

"Remembrance"

by
Matt Maher, Matt Redman

Lord, we remember You
And remembrance leads us to worship
And as we worship You
Our worship leads to communion
We respond to Your invitation,
we remember You

See His body, His blood
Know that He has overcome
Every trial we will face
None too lost to be saved
None too broken, too ashamed
All are welcome in this place
